Raise your hand if you like Girl Scout cookies? Which cookie is your favorite? Is it Thin Mints? Trefoils? Tagalongs? Do-si-dos? Lemonades? In my household, Samoas are the winner! My oldest came down for a snack while her little sister was napping one afternoon and inquired if there were any cookies left. I told her that there was only one left, and she could have it. She retrieved the cookie from the box and then came over to inform me that she only ate half of it because she wanted to save the other half for her little sister.
My heart smiled when my oldest told me that she wanted to save half of the cookie, but I gave her permission to eat the whole thing since little sis had had her fair share of cookies. Nevertheless, big sis insisted that she wanted her sister to have half of the delicious chocolate, caramel, and coconut delight. You see, big sis knew that her little sister loved the cookies too, so much that one day she earned the title, “Cookie Monster” for getting caught after pushing her chair over to the counter where the cookies were, standing her little three-year-old self up on the chair and indulging in 1…2…3…4 cookies. The crumbs and the chocolate on her face told on her too.
Anyway, the part of the story from which we can all glean a beautiful lesson is from the heart of my oldest daughter. Nia thought of her little sister Brielle in the most selfless, sweet, and unwavering manner. She thought enough of her sister to share when she did not even have to. Even after I told her she was free to eat the entire cookie, she declined. She sacrificed her opportunity to eat the whole cookie to leave half for her sister. What a powerful message in such a simple situation!
Just as I saw my child in her small decision to share with her little sister selflessly, Our Father, God, sees us and is concerned about how we handle even the tiniest situations and decisions. Like I was deeply delighted, pleased, and proud of my child for the attitude of her heart, and the act that flowed from her genuine love for her sister via saving half of the cookie, the word of God gives us an example about how God feels when we share. Hebrews 13:16 states, “And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.” While half of a Girl Scout cookie might not be what you have to share, could it be a kind word? Could it be a resource of some type? Could it be a meal, or could it even be a listening ear amid your hectic schedule? God desires that we remember to do good and share, and His word promises that He is pleased with our sacrifices.

Let Us Pray
Dear God, my Father, thank you for this beautiful reminder that you are pleased when I do good and share with others. Please help me to keep my eyes open and heart sensitive to opportunities where I can put this into practice because I want to be pleasing in your sight, bring glory to your name, and help others see you in me. Thank you for the ultimate sacrifice that you made for me through Jesus Christ dying to cover all my sins and rising again so that I can have eternal life! I love you. In the name of Jesus, Amen.
