This post is an excerpt from “A Glimpse of OUR FATHER: Lessons Parenthood Reveals for All of God’s Children,” Lesson 9 -“I want to wear my pink shirt.”
My daughter’s favorite color is pink. She loves pink shirts, pink pants, pink toys, and pink everything! She went through a phase where she ONLY wanted to wear pink shirts. Now, of course, her wardrobe consists of an array of colors and is not simply limited to pink. Nevertheless, when I tried to dress her in any color other than pink, she would pitch a fit. I clearly remember one morning that I was getting her dressed for school. She was still asleep as I put her clothes on. This particular morning, I was putting a yellow shirt on her. After all, she looks gorgeous in more than just one color! As she opened her eyes, she started crying and trying to take the shirt off, stating, “I want to wear my pink shirt.”
As I kept trying to put the shirt over her head, she kept trying to pull the shirt off her head. Oftentimes we do the same thing to our Heavenly Father. Whether it is wanting to remain in the same deadbeat relationships out of comfort and familiarity or it is staying at that job that is leading us on the fast track to a heart attack or stroke, but we are staying there due to thinking and believing that there are no better options, we keep trying to take that yellow shirt off because we only want the pink shirt. God has more in store my friends! There is more that God has for us than just the pink shirt. Blue might be your color, or even a little green. Oftentimes, we limit ourselves by only seeing things through our lenses, when God has far greater things in store for us.
The first portion of Isaiah 43:19 states, “Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it?” He wants to do new things in our lives. Also, Isaiah 55:9-8 states, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord.” 1 Corinthians 2:9 also states, “But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love Him.” There is so much more that our Heavenly Father has in store for you so go ahead and TAKE THE LIMITS OFF! “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts,” says our Father in Isaiah 55:9. My brothers and sisters, let us embrace ALL that our Father has for us and not be hindered by our comfort zones and tiny boxes.
In what areas are you limiting your Heavenly Father?
What are you holding on to that you need to let go of?
Pray this prayer. Dear God, my Father. The statement is true that you know best. After all, you did create me. You see all, hear all, know, all, and have all power. Help me to trust you more. Help me to let go of the things that I am holding on to that are not for my good or that are just limiting me. Dismantle the boxes that I have created in my own life. Take me out of my comfort zone and help me to cling on to the unfamiliar territory that you have prepared for me. Clothe me in what you see fit. Help me to embrace all that you have for me because I know you have great things in store for me. You want to do a new thing in my life, and I want to be ready. Thank you for continuing to be patient with me as I go through this process of letting go, taking off the old, and putting on the new. You are good. You are wise. You are mighty. I love you and praise you. I wait in eager expectation for all that you are going to do in my life and praise you for all that you have already done. In the name of Jesus, Amen.

Wow Quinnese! This is very timely cousin. I’m in the process of moving this week and getting rid of old familiar things was hard for me. However, it was necessary because everything cannot fit in the new space. God is doing a new thing in my life. Thank you for reminding me not limit God. So godly proud of you! Looking forward to reading your book.

Amen, I am glad that you enjoyed Sis. Joyce! Thank you for reading.
I can sooooo relate to your daughter’s story! When I find something that I like, I want to hold on to it because it’s comfortable and familiar. For me, it’s hard to trust God when what you have been asking for hasn’t come to past. As a result, it becomes easy to settle and be complacent with what’s presented to me. Like you said, not feeling like better options are out there. However, you are reminding me to pray and continue to trust God for more because I can’t receive more if I’m not willing release the old way of being in order to receive his best for me. Thanks Quinnise! 💜
Amen, Susan! The wait and trusting can be challenging, but just remember that Our Heavenly Father, God always has the very best in store for His children! He has you! Thank you so much for sharing!!
